Pool Finishes
When it’s time to enjoy moments with friends and family, you want to have a beautiful and welcoming backyard. At Blue Whale, our goal is to help you achieve just that!
PLASTER
Our plaster finish is the most affordable option available, typically presented in a classic white that lends a light blue tint to your pool water. This traditional finish is made from white cement mixed with crushed marble and is applied with a trowel to create a smooth, hard surface. For many years, it has been the preferred choice of pool builders and remodelers. It comes with a five-year limited bonding warranty and can last up to 10 years when accompanied by proper start-up, maintenance, and chemical balance.
However, the inclusion of crushed marble, which is a relatively soft mineral, is the weak point of this finish. This is the main reason it may not last as long as other pools finish on the market.
MINI PEBBLE
Our Mini Pebble pool finishes represent the highest quality resurfacing material available, offering a selection of different colors. This premium finish consists of specially formulated cement blended with pebble aggregates, where the pebbles make up the majority of the spa or pool surface. This design simulates the natural beauty of creek and riverbeds, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal.
POOL COPING
Enhancing the Transition from Water to Deck
Pool coping serves as the visual transition between the edge of your pool water and your deck. Typically extending about 12 inches + back from the pool’s edge, coping can be crafted from the same materials as your deck or from contrasting materials and colors to create a distinctive look.
Designing with Pool Coping
Coping is a key element at the interface between your decking and the waterline tile. For a dramatic effect, choose a coping that contrasts with your deck to make your pool stand out. Alternatively, for a seamless look, select a coping that blends in with the deck, allowing only the water color or tile to pop. Each design choice impacts the overall aesthetics of your pool area.
Types of Pool Coping
There are numerous materials and styles to consider, each with its own unique qualities

Tile
Pool Tile is now available in a stunning array of choices. Let’s explore your pool tile choices in glass to porcelain, from square edged to rounded corners, from earth tones to brilliant jewel tones.
Years ago, pool tile selections were very limited. Today, the choices for new pool tile can be overwhelming. From solid color to designer pool tiles, size choices include:
- 1″ x 1″
- 1″ x 4″
- 2″ x 2″
- 3″ x 3″
- 6″ x 6″
Without guidance, you could literally spend weeks trying to decide on pool tile and matching materials.
Similar to the decision process related to pool finishes, first consider your budget. Prices can differ depending on the tile type and the labor needed for installation. For example, a typical 6″ x 6″ porcelain tile can be installed and grouted in the average-sized pool in a day. Glass tile, on the other hand, is installed and left to cure for 10 days before it can be grouted.
As you can see, your pool tile choice impacts the cost of materials, labor, and project duration. Our expert Blue Whale Pool & Spa Remodeling consultants can guide you through the decision-making process.
